About Children’s Institute
Founded in 2003, The Children’s Institute envisions an Oregon where every child is developing on track, ready for kindergarten and successful by third grade. Our mission is to move research into action by promoting cost-effective public and private investments in our youngest children pre-birth through third grade. We imagine an Oregon where every child is prepared for success in school and in life.
How does your organization promote/use brain science with children birth through 5 years of age?
Brain science shows that the first five years of a child’s life are a time of incredible brain development. For this reason, early development, education and health experiences are the foundation for future outcomes and success in school and life. This understanding is the basis for our work, which focuses on learning, health and family engagement in the early years (prenatal to age 8) to work toward our ultimate goal: an Oregon where every child is prepared for success in school and life.
Can you discuss a specific program/event you do that promotes brain science?
The Children’s Institute’s annual Make It Your Business event features a research-focused keynote address, delivered by a nationally-recognized expert in the field of early learning, family engagement or health. The event, attended each year by more than 400 partners, leaders, and community members, promotes brain science and other evidence for the work we do. For example, our 2016 event speaker was Dr. Dana Suskind, a national expert on early language development in the first three years.
